Illuminating the Dark Proteome
نویسندگان
چکیده
A large segment of the proteome consists of disordered regions, yet in most cases, little is known about their mechanisms and functions. What are the roles of protein disorder in cell biology, and how do intrinsically disordered proteins function? These are the questions Cell's Robert Kruger posed to Madan Babu, Julie Forman-Kay, and Richard Kriwacki. Annotated excerpts from this conversation are presented below, and the full conversation is available with the article online. PAPERCLIP.

Exploring the dark foldable proteome by considering hydrophobic amino acids topology
The protein universe corresponds to the set of all proteins found in all organisms. A way to explore it is by taking into account the domain content of the proteins. However, some part of sequences and many entire sequences remain un-annotated despite a converging number of domain families. The un-annotated part of the protein universe is referred to as the dark proteome and remains poorly char...
متن کاملPhotography of lens opacities by trans-scleral illumination.
FINCHIAM (1955) discussed the value ofphotographically recording the progress of cataract and described a method whereby lens opacities were photographed by the light reflected from the fundus by trans-pupillary trans-illumination. A slit lamp was used, in which the axis of illumination was coincident with the line of observation; the mirror of the illuminating system was replaced by a thin gla...
متن کاملEvaluation of Leaf Proteome in Wheat Genotypes Under Drought Stress
Drought stress in plants, the change (increase or decrease) in the production of plant proteins. Proteomics in recent years one of the most powerful tools that help us to study the changes in protein In order to investigate the proteome of wheat leaves in response to terminal drought, two genotypes susceptible and resistant wheat genotypes were evaluated under irrigated (non-stress) and rain-fe...

Recent experiments suggest that our perception of lightness involves a sophisticated interpretation of illumination and shadow. This finding challenges common notions about hierarchical processing and the neural basis of perception.
متن کاملI-49: Human Y Chromosome ProteomeProject
The success of the Human Genome Project (HGP) has provided a blueprint for the approximately 20,000 gene-encoded proteins potentially active in all of the hundreds of cell types that make up the human body. Yet we still have limited knowledge about a majority of the gene-encoded proteins which are the “building blocks of life” and “cellular machinery”. It is estimated that for nearly half of th...
